Website redesign for a Greek Restaurant
We worked with a real client—a local Greek restaurant in Hamburg called Thessaloniki. The restaurant had a basic, outdated website and primarily relied on Google search results to attract customers. Our challenge was to redesign their site in a way that reflected their authentic identity, improved user engagement, and helped them stand out in a competitive dining scene.
We followed the Double Diamond design process, starting with Discover. We began by interviewing the client to understand their goals. Since they didn’t have a clear vision for the redesign, we leaned heavily on user research, competitor analysis, and secondary research. We analyzed three competitor restaurants in the area and conducted user interviews, which revealed that diners often choose restaurants based on reviews and recommendations—even more than visual appeal. This insight helped shape our priorities moving forward.
In the Define phase, we synthesized our findings using an affinity diagram, a user persona (“Mehmet Zor”), and a user journey map. These tools helped us identify key user needs like trust, ease of access to information, and social proof. We then ideated and prioritized features such as customer reviews, easy navigation, and a welcoming visual tone that reflects the warmth of a traditional Greek dining experience.
During Develop, we created low- and mid-fidelity wireframes, testing them through user polls and feedback to guide design decisions. We explored different design directions using mood boards and gradually built a high-fidelity prototype that captured the restaurant’s charm while ensuring usability.
Finally, in the Deliver stage, we finalized a complete UI style tile and interactive prototype. Our solution provided a clean, informative, and modern website that addressed user behavior and business goals. Through this project, we learned how to design with empathy, apply research effectively, and deliver a solution that balances aesthetics with functionality.
